Well, we have been very fortunate with 70mm rain last week. The paddocks are already starting to show signs of enthusiasm in their new cycle of growth. Tom was able to sow a paddock of triticale down on the flats which is already through the ground. This will give us some feed during the later autumn and into winter to keep our lambs at Yarallah growing well. The work that Tom has put into improving the soils should help the organic matter retain the moisture longer – even if the rain does not continue over the next few weeks.
The other piece of exciting news is that we have just received notice that we have been granted some funding to increase the size of the area that we have put into tree, native grass and understorey planting along the creek on the property. It means that we now have over 10% of the property invested in restoring habitat and native vegetation. The funding comes through Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority and we are all really delighted with this opportunity to increase our bio-diversity on the farm.
Our lambs are looking well and are available every day at Rettke’s Carrier ST Meats in Benalla and you can also find us each month in the pool garden at Violet Town Market. This is every second Saturday of the month. Do come along and try some of our beautiful Yarallah lamb sausages fresh from the barbecue and cooked to perfection by Tom. Cheers for now Cath
